BERLIN, Oct. 8, 2007 – Cavium Networks (NASDAQ:
CAVM), a leading provider of highly integrated semiconductor
products that enable intelligent processing for networking,
communications, storage and security applications, today announced
the availability of its complete reference system designs
for Broadband, SOHO and SME markets. These reference designs
incorporate ready-to-use hardware systems along with a large
variety of world-class software applications from leading
companies such as D2 Tech, Arada Systems and TeamF1. Reference
designs will be displayed at the Broadband World Forum in
Berlin, Oct. 8 – 11 in Cavium Networks booth #223.
One reference design at the Broadband World Forum demonstrates
a triple-play gateway using the dual-core OCTEON MIPS64
processor with SME Class 1Gbps+ throughput of data with
hardware based QoS (quality of service) support for voice
and video traffic. The reference design uses D2 Tech software
to provide VoIP processing and call termination in software
on the core. The reference design also supports MPEG decoder
to stream traffic from a central storage location to an
attached display, as well as support for 802.11n WLAN. All
of this simultaneous processing is done at low power that
eliminates the need for a fan in the system.
“The powerful single- and dual-core OCTEON MIPS64
processors provide enough headroom to process multiple VoIP
channels with full call control and voice compression algorithms
running simultaneous with the data, video and wireless traffic,
“ said Doug Makishima, vice president of marketing
and sales at D2 Technologies. “We have multiple successful
deployments of our vPort VoIP software running on OCTEON
and see continued demand moving forward,” he said.
“Next-generation dual-band 802.11n requires high-performance
processing and hardware QoS to support multi-media over
WLAN, “said Praveen Singh, CEO at Arada Systems. “We
have ported our Arada wireless stack for Atheros’
802.11n WLAN chipsets over to OCTEON and are successfully
taking common customers to market. OCTEON allows us to have
enough headroom for retail/enterprise applications to work
effectively, even with high 802.11n traffic”, he said.
“SME markets require high-performance UTM functionality
at aggressive price points, “said Mukesh Lulla, President
and CEO at TeamF1. “We see huge momentum with Cavium’s
dual-core processors, and our UTM software on these processors
provides a compelling solution to OEMs building SME networking
equipment.”
