Advantech’s 96-core Cavium Networks OCTEON® Plus-based system to preview at Interop
Taipei, Taiwan, May 20th 2009 – Advantech’s Networks and Communications Group today announced they will be previewing a ground breaking 4U rack-mount network appliance scalable from 12 to 96 cores based on the Cavium Networks (NASDAQ: CAVM) OCTEON® Plus network services processor. An advanced sample of the system, named the NCP-7560, will be showcased at Interop Las Vegas in Cavium’s booth # 1943 this week, demonstrating almost 80 Gbps of data throughput over six 10 GigE and sixteen GigE ports.
The system scales from one to eight boards, each loaded with Cavium’s 12-core OCTEON® Plus CN56/57XX processor and all boards are interconnected by internally switched XAUI ports. The platform is fully managed and provides storage connectivity throught the AMC bays.
With wire speed packet processing capabilities over multiple GigE and 10 GigE ports, the NCP-7560 is ideally positioned for applications in service provider networks for enhanced security, in content-aware routing, in subscriber-based services and content-based billing.
“To address growing demands for greater quality of experience (QoE) Control as well as more enhanced P2P traffic management and bandwidth management, the NCP-7560 provides an unprecedented concentration of packet processing power in a single commercial off the shelf (COTS) system,” said Byron Lin, Director of Advantech’s Network Processor Systems development group.
In the Enterprise and Data Center markets, the NCP-7560 means that OEM’s now have a very high bandwidth COTS platform available to customize and brand with their own intelligent switching and routing gear. The system is also targeted at OEMs and Value-Added Resellers (VARs) focusing on Traffic Management and Application Delivery Control as well as Network Security vendors requiring more sophisticated levels of Intrusion Detection and Prevention (IDP).
