Critical Links Announces edgeBOX™ “Business Gateway” Solution Running on Cavium Networks Single & Dual Core OCTEON™ MIPS64® Processors
Joint-Solution to Deliver High-Performance Cost-Efficient Converged Network Services to SMEs and Branch Offices
Southampton , UK , 8th August 2006 –Critical Links, an international networking technology company, today announced that Critical Links award-winning edgeBOX 4.0 will support the latest generation of Cavium Networks OCTEON single and dual core MIPS64® -based processor family. The combined solution offers a high-performance, cost-efficient software and hardware solution to OEM & ODM vendors and service providers looking to deliver complete converged voice and data network services for SMEs and Branch Offices. A demo of the edgeBOX software platform running on Cavium's new OCTEON processors will be shown to vendors in August.

edgeBOX enables Telcos and Service Providers to deliver everything an SME or Enterprise Branch Office (EBO) needs in one integrated platform, at a lower cost of ownership, without compromising security, scalability or ease of management. When deployed at the edge of a customer's network, edgeBOX allows a Managed Service Provider to remotely provision, support and maintain voice and data services such as a fully featured IP-PBX and VoIP gateway, security, QoS, collaboration, WiFi, router and file storage.

Cavium Networks' OCTEON CN31XX and CN30XX processors are based on the same custom cnMIPS64 CPU core as in the currently available CN38XX and CN36XX family of processors. Each processor has 1 or 2 cnMIPS cores, along with up to 256KB L2 cache and features an extensive set of I/Os including Gigabit Ethernet networking interfaces, PCI/PCI-X, DDR2, USB 2.0 with PHY, TDM/PCM for Voice applications, and other standard I/O such as GPIO, SPI, UARTs and Expansion bus. The processors vary in frequency from 300 MHz to 500 MHz. Maximum power consumption of the parts ranges from under 2 Watts to 7 Watts while application performance ranges from several hundred Mbps to 2Gbps.
edgeBOX addresses a growing market opportunity for Telco's and ISPs to deliver value-added managed services to their business broadband customers, increasing per subscriber revenues and providing customer retention. It was recently unveiled in several european markets, following successful launches in Brazil , China , India , Portugal , Chile and South Africa .
