Performance Leading NITROX™ Soho Processors and
Popular Atheros Dual-band WLAN Chipsets in Cavium Networks Reference
Design Speed Development of Secure Wireless Gateways
Computex, Taipei, Taiwan, May 31, 2005
– Cavium Networks (Booth #923/925), the industry leader
in content and security processing announced today the delivery
of a combined, best of breed, Wireless LAN Broadband Gateway
reference design utilizing the Cavium Networks NITROX Soho processor
and the Atheros Communications AR5004X 802.11a/g WLAN chipset.
This joint solution will speed up time to market for networking
OEMs and ODMs for development of cost-effective, high-performance
SOHO and SMB dual-band wireless LAN gateways.
The Cavium Networks NITROX Soho MIPS32™-based processors
offer unmatched integration and price/performance at up to 200Mbps
throughput and support for both IPsec and SSL protocol processing.
They are widely used as part of both wired and wireless secure
broadband gateways. With the integration and full support of
the Atheros AR5004X dual-band (2.4/5 GHz) WLAN chipset, software
OEMs can now rapidly create a single product which can seamlessly
transform from a wired to a secure 802.11a/g wireless solution
with the addition of a mini-PCI card design from Atheros.
The Cavium Network NITROX Soho Processor product line is an
industry leading Secure Communication Processor family delivering
a full range of products supporting line rate firewall, routing
and VPN/SSL processing from 10Mbps – 200Mbps. The highly
integrated NITROX Soho family includes the CN201, CN210 and
new CN22x products, which integrate a MIPS32™Processor
with 16KB Instruction & Data Caches, powerful security engines
for SSL and IPsec, 3x 10/100 Ethernet MACs, 32Bit PCI interfaces
and a range of General Purpose I/Os.
Dual-band wireless networks are rapidly increasing in popularity.
Operation in both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequency bands allows
people to segment their wireless home networks for improved
performance and reliability. Communication in the uncrowded
5GHz band enables a reliable wireless connection free from potential
interference within the crowded 2.4GHz band. People can stream
photos, movies, and music over the 5GHz 802.11a network without
being affected by 2.4GHz devices such as microwave ovens, cordless
phones, and 802.11b and 802.11g networks.
“Our
NITROX Soho secure communication processors offer an industry-leading
cost and performance platform. We are pleased to partner with
Atheros to deliver a complete, production-ready solution that
enables highly cost-effective Wireless LAN gateways,”
said Rajneesh Gaur Director of Marketing at Cavium Networks.
“This will allow our joint customers to achieve shorten
their development time and effort using state of the reference
design.”
Atheros' Super AG® technology employs innovative performance-enhancement
features—including packet bursting, fast frames, adaptive
radio technology, and data compression—that significantly
improve the throughput and range of wireless networking products.
The AR5004X WLAN chipset with Super AG® high-throughput
technology is being supported in all Cavium Networks NITROX
Soho processor designs with this new software release.
“We are excited to be working with Cavium Networks to
enable seamless support for our AR5004X WLAN chipset on the
Cavium Networks NITROX Soho platform,” said Mark Hung,
Director of Strategic Marketing at Atheros. “The growth
of secure wireless gateway demand in the SOHO and SMB markets
has been impressive and we can now address this with our integrated
offering.”
The combined Cavium Networks NITROX Soho and Atheros AR5004X
solution will be demonstrated at the Cavium Networks Booth #923/925
at the Computex Taipei International Information Technology
Show May 31- June 3 at the Taipei World Trade Center Exhibition
Hall 1, No. 5, Hsin-yi Road, Sec, 5, Taipei, Taiwan.
