Reference Design Combines Cavium Networks NITROX™
Soho Processors with Airgo Networks True MIMO™ Chipsets
to Enable Industry Leading, 108Mbps Performance
Computex, Taipei, Taiwan, May
31, 2005 – Cavium Networks (Booth #923/925)
, the industry leader in content and security processing, today
announced the delivery of the highest performance MIMO- enhanced
802.11 secure WLAN Gateway reference design. The design combines
Cavium Networks' performance leading MIPS32™ based NITROX
Soho Processors with integrated, production ready support for
108Mbps Airgo Networks' next generation True MIMO™ wireless
chipsets. This reference design, which includes hardware and
software, enables an out of the box solution for OEMs and ODMs
to rapidly build secure MIMO-enhanced 802.11, 108Mbps wireless
SOHO and SME broadband gateways.
"High bandwidth
applications, such as SSL VPN for remote access, streaming audio
and video, large file transfers and gaming, are now being increasingly
demanded over wireless networks," said Rajiv Khemani, Vice
President of Marketing at Cavium Networks. "Our leading
NITROX Soho processors deliver the highest SOHO and SME performance
for Firewall, Routing and SSL/IPsec VPN today. The addition
of turnkey support for Airgo Networks' True MIMO, 108Mbps, 802.11
wireless chipsets makes this platform a 'must-have' performance
and security combination for our customers."
The Cavium Network NITROX Soho Processor product line is an
industry leading Secure Communication Processor family delivering
a full range of products supporting line rate firewall, routing
and VPN/SSL processing from 10Mbps – 200Mbps. The highly
integrated NITROX Soho family includes the CN201, CN210 and
new CN22x products, which integrate a MIPS32™ Processor
with 16KB Instruction & Data Caches, powerful security engines
for SSL and IPsec, 3 x 10/100 Ethernet MACs, 32Bit PCI interfaces,
and a range of General Purpose I/Os.
Airgo is the only company to conceive, develop and deliver products
with MIMO OFDM–a leading technology rapidly embraced by
the wireless networking market and selected for the next generation
802.11n wireless LAN standard. True MIMO refers to the type
of MIMO technology based on spatial multiplexing as designed
into all major proposals for the 11n standard. By leveraging
multipath, reflections of a radio signal, and transmitting multiple
signals in a single 20MHz radio channel, Airgo's True MIMO multiplies
both data rates and reliable coverage area without using additional
frequency spectrum and without causing interference with other
Wi-Fi devices and networks. True MIMO data rates up to 108Mbps
and 802.11a/b/g rates up to 54Mbps are supported simultaneously
in a single 802.11 radio channel that maintains international
regulatory compliance. Additionally, True MIMO-based products
have been shown to improve the performance when connected to
conventional 802.11a/b/g products on any given network.
"Airgo's True MIMO wireless technology multiplies
the speed, range and reliability of high performance full-featured
Residential and SMB gateways, enabling new popular applications
like photo sharing, streaming high definition video, and real
time, high-speed, interactive gaming," said Bob Twomey,
vice president of North America Sales, Airgo Networks. "We
are extremely pleased to be integrated into the leading SOHO/SMB
solution from Cavium Networks. The combination of Airgo's breakthrough
True MIMO technology and Cavium Networks' high performance NITROX
Soho communication processors will open up enterprise class
applications, as well as wireless connectivity and security
features for the home and small business user."
This Cavium Networks NITROX Soho reference design comes with
a complete, Linux based software development kit with a full
operating system, networking package, Linux utilities and executables,
as well as the latest Airgo True MIMO drivers tuned for NITROX
Soho that enable an out-of-the-box creation of the highest performance,
next generation secure wireless gateways. This Cavium Networks
NITROX Soho reference development platform with MIMO capability
will be demonstrated for the first time at the Cavium Networks
booth (#923/925) at the Computex Taipei International Information
Technology Show, May 31- June3 at the Taipei World Trade Center
Exhibition Hall 1, No. 5, Hsin-yi Road, Sec, 5, Taipei, Taiwan.
